Vacancy - Whoever, Whenever, Whatever
Sound Design and Mix by JETSONIX
The Project
Vacancy is a new kind of ready-to-fill sparkling beverage designed to give people room to make the drink their own.
Sip it straight. Spike it. Mix it. Bring it along.
The campaign introduces Vacancy through bright, playful poolside moments, showing the product as flexible, social and made for whatever the occasion calls for.
The creative idea is simple: the space in the can is part of the point. Vacancy gives the drinker the freedom to decide what goes in it and how they enjoy it.
The Sound Challenge
The film already had a strong foundation of sound design and a music track with its own lyrical energy. The challenge was to enhance the world without overcomplicating it.
The mix needed to:
Keep the voiceover clear against a busy music track
Make the can sounds more recognizable
Preserve the playful rhythm of the original sound design
Smooth the transitions between music sections
Give key product moments more emphasis
Make the poolside environment feel natural and inviting
Support the pack shot without distracting from the brand message
The sound needed to feel polished and intentional, while still retaining the lightness and spontaneity of the campaign.
The Approach
Working from Jacob De Gaetano’s initial sound design pass, I focused on balance, clarity and selective enhancement.
The mix included:
Separating the vocal element from the music track to create more space for the voiceover
Shaping the VO so it remained clear without overpowering the music
Bringing the can sound forward so the product action felt more recognizable
Smoothing the music re-entry after the pool scene
Preserving the musical resolution into the pack shot
Creating a small sonic “stop” around the bottle-fill moment
Pulling back the upper frequencies in the music to emphasize the action and sound effects
Supporting the musical water plops that land with the pack-shot text animation
The goal was not to rebuild the track. It was to make the existing idea work harder.
The Result
A bright, playful commercial mix that keeps the focus on Vacancy’s central idea: there is room for whatever you want to make.
The final soundscape gives the campaign more clarity, product presence and physical realism while preserving the energy of the original creative direction.
